Q: Do I need to bring my own
equipment?
A: No. CDKC provides kayaks,
paddles and all safety equipment. However, you're welcome to bring your
own gear and use it, subject to our inspection for suitability and
safety.
Q: Why does CDKC need my
height
and weight?

equipment
on hand that fits you properly.
Q: Where do we meet?
A: We
have several choice spots for our classes. The specific meeting
point depends on weather and the aims of a specific class, tour, or
group. Here's a map to our favorite put-in locations: Google
map of starting points
Q: May I bring my child?
A: We cannot accommodate
children
younger than 16. Children age 16 and older who are capable of paddling
a kayak on their own are welcome in our programs.
Q: What should I wear?
A: No Cotton! Cotton clothing
is
uncomfortable when wet and can contribute to hypothermia (a potential
problem even in the hottest weather). Instead, wear quick-drying
synthetic fabrics. For evening programs, be sure to bring a windbreaker
or fleece, as it can get chilly on the water at night even in July and
August. A hat and sunglasses are highly recommended. A change of
clothes is also a good idea.
Q: What else should I bring?
A: It's important to bring
plenty
of water, sunscreen and a hat. Sunglasses and easily portable snacks
(such as food bars) are also recommended. Be sure to bring any
prescription medications you might need such as an asthma inhaler or
EpiPen, as well as your completed client forms. For full day classes,
bring a lunch.
Q: What charts should I have
A: We have a number of charts
you can use during training. If you would like your own charts,
we like to use the Maptech Waterproof
Charts, Number 42 "Mt. Desert to Machias Bay"
We also often use charts from a company simply called Waterproof
Charts. When using their charts use 105 (sometimes 104). If
we go beyond our local area we'll advise you on charts.
